Bible Bowl 2008
Bible Bowl
The 2008 Bible Bowl season has come to a close. Our final event was the Fellowship and Awards Banquet held at Wayne Bowl on April 12th. The Shelter 7 crew took home a lot of hardware as our Marmosets (primary division), Howlers (junior division) and Silver Backs (senior division) ruled the South Division jungle this year by placing first in each of their respective age divisions. These trophies will be added to our ever growing collection in the Shelter Room. Come by to have a look, but make sure you wear sunglasses—they’re shiny!

This year’s area of study came from the book of Mark. We basically read the whole book, but had to skip a few sections in order to make it fit into the parameters of how much material we give the students to study. If you’ve ever read Mark’s gospel, you’ll know that he cuts right to the chase in his story telling. He doesn’t give a ton of details, which was good for the Bible Bowlers, but he covers a lot of ground in a short period of time—sort of like the Cliffs Notes of Jesus’ life.

Hannah Bradburn and Sam Cale were among a select few people who received $20 Target gift cards from the Bible Bowl committee for having perfect scores all year long. Congratulations, you two!

The members of Team Silver Back (Sam Cale, Dominique Corley, Justin Lambert and Erin Strader) received $1,000 scholarships from Rochester College for finishing first overall in the senior division. Holy guacamole! That’d buy at least a semester’s worth of books!

Bible Bowl
It’s not too early to be thinking about 2009 Bible Bowl. If you would like to be on next year’s team, or just want to learn more about Bible Bowl, let one of the coaches know—Tim Bradburn, Char Luttrell or Cindy Strader. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before or are a ten year veteran...we want you to be on our team. It’s a lot of work and a big commitment, but it’s a lot of fun too! Ask anybody who’s participated in the past and they’ll tell you that even though we’re serious about learning the material, we have a blast learning it together and just hanging out with each other. Often there seems to be more laughter going on than studying...and that’s a good thing.

So if you like having fun, learning God’s word and Trivial Pursuit type games, then Bible Bowl is just the thing for you.
