Luke 24:47

Missions Newsletter - Eldoret, Kenya

May 13, 2011

Greetings in the Name of our Lord, Jesus the Christ!

We had another week long Sunday School Seminar at the end of April. The target was to reach the Sunday School teachers in Eldoret town. We had some few from Town, but others from Kitale, and other areas outside of town. In total, we had 16 students, 10 new for Phase I and 6 for Phase II & III.

We heard some wonderful testimonies about how this program has changed the lives of the students. Dorcus, a young girl of about 20 did Phase I with us last time. She went home and implemented what she learned. She said all the kids in the village were hers. A person recognized that she has a way with children and has arranged and taken her to train to be a school teacher! What a blessing!

I heard from the preacher of another young girl who trained with us this time. He said that it has changed her life. Her parents have noticed the difference in her and also, she really taught Sunday School well the first Sunday back. So much, that others have agreed to come the next meeting in August. Others have heard what they have missed and now are planning to send more teachers to our training in August. Praise the Lord with us for what has happened and will happen in this program.

Our little church here at Rock Center meets in a small 12 ft. X 10 ft. Room. We are about to outgrow it as on Sundays we are about 30 kids and 13 adults. We do the worship together and then for the main lesson, Grace takes the kids outside and teaches them.

Anne, Anne, Joseph Muhoro, Maina and Christopher work together on a Saturday outreach program to the children in an area behind us. This is a low income, squatter area, with lots of children who need love and attention. They go and teach them on Saturdays for about 2 or so hours. During this time, at our house are Grace’s children that come from the other side of the tarmac road. Lots of Prayer is needed for Saturday outreach to children in the neighborhood.

Changed lives by this small church plant. (Special thanks to Joseph Muhoro who has worked so hard to teach people about Christ and Christian living) The last two Sunday’s, my heart was so joyous. On the 1st of May, some of us come early for personal prayer and singing. Susan was there and the cutest young man (who smiles all the time) by the name of Zaki. Since we were few, I had the children turn and face the adults. Zaki and Susan were facing each other with just a bench separating them. Zaki would smile at Susan while singing and she would smile back.

Big deal you say, well, this is the same lady who verbally assaulted children who were cleaning up the neighborhood last year. Susan was known for drinking and I do not ever remember seeing her smile before. Twice she has brought candy and treats for the children at church. Grace has a program of doing this, they go around and clean the plastic trash and burn it. On May 2, for Labor Day, some of us in the neighborhood provided a meal for the AP Police and the children came and cleaned up the area where they live. Christ can Transform lives!

1. Then on 9th of May, Baba Immanuel (father of Immanuel) gave a nice testimony in church. Immanuel is one of my Saturday boys who comes to work etc. At our house. His father used to drink a lot. The family went through a major change 2 years ago with the mother dying. The family of Ann were missing from church this Sunday. The report came that they were sick. After church, we all went to pray for them. One of her sons is Abraham, one of the other of Keith’s 4 Saturday boys. We got there and found that Abraham and the father were both sick. We prayed for them and preached a bit, for the sake of the father who has not yet made a confession for Christ. The report was heard that by Sunday evening, they were both better and up and about. As we left there, it was shockingly good to see Immanuel and his father walking away hand in hand. This is rarely seen in this culture, especially for a young man who is 12 years old. Again, Christ is able to Transform lives!

Thanks for your Prayer Support and Financial Support. It is because of these that lives are being Transformed for Christ! We have the joy of seeing the changed lives while here on earth, and you will have the joy of being in Heaven with them for Eternity!

In Service to Christ,
Keith, Grace, Kirsten and Ruth Gafner
